ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University men's lacrosse team took care of business against Thomas More, winning 27-3 Saturday (Feb. 24) at Lewis Stadium in the team's home opener.

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 3, Thomas More 1
Neither team scored in the first five minutes and Thomas More got on the board first with a goal at the 9:58 mark. Lewis evened up the score with a goal by Boyenko off a pass from Michael Matheny at the 6:48 mark.
The Flyers took the lead as
Kevin Blaz (McHenry, Illinois/Marian Central Catholic HS) scored unassisted inside the final two minutes of the quarter and increased the lead to 3-1 on Kology's goal with 15 seconds left.
SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 14, Thomas More 0
Lewis flew away in the second, scoring nearly once per minute.
Logan Suchy (Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota/Simley HS) scored the first goal of his collegiate career to get things started and Clement found Blaz for the next Flyers' goal.
Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School) made it 6-1 Lewis with a goal at the 11:48 mark and just seven seconds later Clement scored off an assist from Boyenko. Ruskoski then got on the board with the Flyers a player up at the 10:13 mark, assisted by
Malikye Good (Windsor, Ontario, Canada/St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic HS).
Boyenko scored at the 7:50 mark, assisted by Clement and then Good scored back-to-back goals with assists from Dalep on the first and Clement on the second, to make it 11-1 Lewis. Matheny and Torello scored just eight seconds apart to bring the lead to 13-1.
Then it was Boyenko scoring twice in under 10 seconds, assisted first by Dalep and then Good and then Good scored a goal of his own just six seconds later as Boyenko picked up the assist. Clement scored the final goal of the first half as the Flyers had the advantage with 1:25 left, assisted by
Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/Pitt Meadows Secondary School).
Riah Rathe (Chanhassen, Minnesota/Chanhassen HS) made a save on the Saints' only shot on goal in the quarter and Lewis led, 17-1, at halftime.
THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 5, Thomas More 2
Just 14 seconds into the third quarter, Ruskoski scored as the Flyers had the advantage and added another goal on the advantage off a pass from
Riley Paulus (Eagan, Minnesota/Eagan HS) 16 seconds later. Kology scored again at the 9:39 mark to make it 20-1 Lewis.
Thomas More scored again while up a player with 6:54 left in the quarter but the Flyers came right back with a goal just seven seconds by Kology after the pass from Paulus. The Saints scored its third and final goal with 4:24 left.
Nate McLean (Crystal Lake, Illinois/Crystal Lake Central HS) scored with 23 seconds left to close out the quarter with Lewis ahead, 22-3. Donahue made two saves in the period for the Flyers.
FOURTH QUARTER: Lewis 5, Thomas More 0
Dominic Bravata (Portage, Michigan/Portage Northern HS) scored in the opening minute for Lewis and then neither team scored for the next six minutes. The Flyers struck again at the 8:09 mark as Ruskoski found the back of the net again after the assist from
Zach Buddelmeyer (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro HS).
Bravata scored again 29 seconds later, getting the ball from
Nick Sheedy (Rosemount, Minnesota/Rosemount HS) on the goal, and Kology scored twice more to finish the scoring in the game.
FINAL SCORE: Lewis 27, Thomas More 3
