SUMMARY
Missouri S&T scored the first six points before Badali hit a three-point shot to get Lewis on the board. The Miners answered with a three of its own, and Gugliuzza later responded with a steal and layup.
From that point, neither team scored for over three minutes, until an and-one for Badali got the Flyers within one, 9-8. Lewis then grabbed its first lead of the game after a layup by Cesarini, but S&T answered with a layup of its own and the Miners ultimately held a 13-10 lead after the first.
Hilber knocked down a pair of threes to start the second quarter which gave the Flyers a 16-13 lead. Later, baskets by Hilber and Courier pushed the Lewis lead to five, 22-17.
The Miners answered with a deep ball, again the offenses slowed, with no points in over three minutes. After S&T broke the drought with a basket to tie it at 22, Gugliuzza scored six points on the next two Flyer possessions to take a 28-24 advantage.
The Miners scored six in a row to grab the lead but Lewis regained the advantage with a three-pointer by
Alayna Soukup (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) right before halftime to go up 31-30. The Flyers took 10 more field goal attempts than S&T in the first half, thanks in large part to forcing 11 turnovers while Lewis only committed four.
Hilber drilled a deep ball to start the second-half scoring but the Miners scored the next four points to tie it at 34. After the Flyers scored the next four points, Missouri S&T punched back with a 6-0 run to take the lead.
Once again it was Hilber powering the Lewis offense as she scored the next four points herself to put the Flyers back in front, 42-40. She finished with 11 points in the third quarter and later a three from Gugliuzza made it 47-42 Lewis heading to the fourth.
To start the final frame, it was more Hilber as she hit a pair of threes and the Flyer lead reached 55-42 after Badali made a layup. S&T halted the run with a three-pointer to get back within 10.
Later in the frame, another deep ball from Hilber restored the Lewis lead to 12 points, 60-48. The Miners responded with seven unanswered points to get back within five.
A jumper by Schmidt gave the Flyers a 62-55 lead with 1:41 to go and Hilber knocked down a jumper to give her 30 points in the game and the Flyers a nine-point lead to all but put the game away.
Lewis went a perfect 8/8 on free throws the rest of the way to seal the 72-63 win.
