Lewis Women's Basketball Tops Truman State Thursday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team won, 71-57, over Truman State Thursday (Feb. 8) at Neil Carey Arena. The three-point shot was a major difference in the Flyers' victory, with Lewis going 10/25 (.400) from deep while the Bulldogs were just 3/22 (.136).

SUMMARY
Truman State scored first off the jump ball, but Lewis answered with a three-point shot by Hilber to kick off a 7-0 run and take the lead. Schmidt then scored seven of the Flyers' next nine points.

Lewis pushed the lead to 19-11 at the end of the first after another deep ball from Hilber. The Flyers shot 7/15 (.467) in the opening frame while holding the Bulldogs to 4/12 (.333).

After a slow start on offense to start the second quarter, Lewis hit three consecutive threes, two by Badali, to build the lead to 30-15. Truman State then went on an 8-5 run to cut the deficit to 12.

A late three-pointer by Hilber gave the Flyers a 16-point lead at halftime, 40-24. Lewis was 5/10 (.500) from three-point range in the second quarter, while the Bulldogs went 0/7 from deep.

Lewis scored the first seven points of the second half, with five from Gugliuzza. Truman State then went on a huge run, scoring 18 in a row and shooting 7/7 during the stretch while the Flyers went 0/7.

After Lewis hit free throws to end the scoreless drought, Gugliuzza hit a big three-pointer to help the Flyers restore the lead to 10 points, 57-47, heading to the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs went on a 4-1 push to open the final frame to get within seven at 58-51. Gugliuzza and Hilber then made layups for Lewis to bring the lead back up to 11.

Things went back-and-forth from there until a 5-0 run by the Flyers made the score 69-55 with a minute to go. Both teams made one last basket to reach the final score of 71-57.
