Lewis Men's Volleyball Drops Matchup Against Ohio State

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The No. 14 Lewis University men's volleyball team fell to No. 6 Ohio State, 3-0, Thursday (Feb. 7) at Neil Carey Arena.

SET BREAKDOWN
Set 1: Ohio State 25, Lewis 20
Lewis started hot, grabbing a 4-1 lead with kills by Prayer, Roquet and Daniel Haber (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach). Moments later, Ohio State rattled off a 5-1 push to take a 7-6 lead.

From there, things went back-and-forth for a long stretch before the Buckeyes used another 5-1 run to push its lead to 21-16. The Flyers tried to get back in it, including a big solo block by Prayer while OSU was on set point, but the Buckeyes finished the set win with a kill.

Set 2: Ohio State 25, Lewis 21
After Ohio State took the opening point, Lewis came right back with a 3-1 run behind kills from Roquet and Prayer to take the 3-2 advantage. Back-to-back service aces for the Buckeyes later gave OSU a 6-4 lead.

Ohio State later secured a 7-1 run to push its lead to seven at 18-11. The Flyers charged back with a 7-2 scoring burst with two kills from Roquet and a pair of aces from Prayer to get back within two, at 20-18.

The Buckeyes then recovered with a 3-0 run, and a service error by Lewis finished the set in Ohio State's favor.

Set 3: Ohio State 25, Lewis 23
The third set started out tight until a 4-0 push put the Buckeyes ahead, 7-4. The Flyers immediately responded with a 4-0 run of its own behind a kill and block from Roquet and a kill by Michael Sack (Oak Lawn, Ill./St. Laurence).

Ohio State then secured the next four points to go back ahead, 11-8, before Lewis took a 4-1 charge to tie it at 12 behind a kill and block assist by Nathan DeGraaf (Cranberry Township, Penn./Seneca Valley HS). From there, points went back-and-forth with the Buckeyes clinging to a slim lead until the Flyers got things back even at 20-20.

Kills from Roquet and Sack tied the set again at 22 and 23 points, but OSU secured the last two points, finishing the match with an ace.

Lewis men's volleyball hosts Loyola-Chicago Wednesday (Feb. 14) at 7 p.m. CT at Neil Carey Arena. It will be Rae Strong Night as the Flyers honor head coach Dan Friend and women's volleyball head coach Lorelee Smith's foundation supporting families of micro-preemies.
