FINDLAY, Ohio -- The Lewis University women's lacrosse team won, 16-12, at the University of Findlay Wednesday (March 13).

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 4, Findlay 1
Winterlik scored on Lewis' first shot of the game at the 9:30 mark of the opening quarter to put the Flyers ahead early. Bowen followed up with a free-position goal while Lewis had the advantage with 8:29 left in the frame.

Findlay struck back with a goal on a free position shot less than one minute later. Bowen scored again with 3:32 left in the first, then assisted on Winterlik's goal to make it 4-1 at the 2:56 mark.

Templeton made three saves in the opening period to help the Flyers take the lead.

SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 5, Findlay 2
Lewis scored the first five goals of the second quarter to build its lead to a commanding 9-1. Bowen scored her third goal of the game in the opening minute of the quarter to get the scoring started.

Sweeney notched a shorthanded goal after an assist by Davidson at the 11:49 mark and scored again with 7:56 left in the first half as Bowen earned the assist. Emma Stanek (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) then found the back of the net with the Flyers a player up just 41 seconds later, and Winterlik scored a free-position goal with 5:35 remaining in the quarter to make it 9-1.

The Oilers scored two goals late to make the halftime score 9-3. Templeton made two more saves in the second quarter.

THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 4, Findlay 3
Sweeney scored the only goal of the first eight minutes of the third quarter. Davidson then struck off an assist from Sweeney at the 6:00 mark to restore Lewis' lead to eight, 11-3.

Findlay scored the next two goals on a free-position shot and a goal with the advantage before Sweeney scored again off an assist from Bowen with 1:43 left in the period. The Oilers notched another goal, but Stanek struck back by scoring with eight seconds remaining after taking a pass from Davidson to make it 13-6 heading to the fourth quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER: Findlay 5, Lewis 3
Findlay looked to mount a comeback in the fourth, scoring three of the first four goals to get within five, 14-9. After the Oilers scored one goal in each of the first two minutes of the quarter, Bowen scored on a free-position shot while the Flyers had the advantage with 11:46 to play.

Templeton was able to stop three of Findlay's next four shots to help preserve the lead, and Winterlik scored at the 4:57 mark to put Lewis' lead back up to six goals at 15-9. Bowen then notched another goal on a free-position shot with 3:34 remaining to continue building the lead.

The Oilers struck back with three goals down the stretch, but could not complete the comeback and the Flyers held on for the win.

FINAL SCORE: Lewis 16, Findlay 12
