GAME SUMMARY
Maryville hit a two-run home run in the top of the first to go up 2-0 and that score held through the sixth inning as both starting pitchers were in control. In the top of the seventh,
Michael Sclafani (Oak Brook, Ill./Montini Catholic) walked the leadoff batter and was pulled, finishing with six-plus innings, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts, taking the loss (3-3).
The Saints scored four runs in the seventh to make the lead 6-0. Lewis answered with a two-run homer by
Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill.) that scored
Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) in the bottom of the eighth to cut the deficit to 6-2.
Another two-run home run by Maryville made it 8-2 in the top of the ninth. In the bottom half,
Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) led off with a single and later scored on a single by Alt, but that was all the Flyers could get back as the Saints won, 8-3.
