ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Lewis University softball team swept a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader against Missouri-St. Louis Saturday (March 30). The Flyers won the first game 11-1 and the second 11-2 in five innings.
GAME 1: Lewis 11, Missouri-St. Louis 1

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Both teams failed to score in the first three innings. Lewis broke through in the fourth inning with a three spot for an early 3-0 lead.
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) started the inning with a single,
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) sacrificed her over to second,
Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge) singled then a wild pitch made it third and second with one out.
Evie Calderon (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) ripped a two-run single to left which scored Powell and Bontrager to make it 2-0.
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) drove home Calderon after her RBI single to right made it 3-0. Lewis broke through again with five more runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 8-0.
Powell hit a two-run single down the left field line which scored
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) and
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) to make it 5-0. Wuske continued her big game with a two-run single which scored pinch runner
Mackenzie Sheehan (Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove) and Powell giving Lewis a 7-0 advantage.
Lewis scored its final run of the frame after
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Wuske after an UMSL miscue. The Tritons were able to get one run back in the bottom half of the inning which cut it down to 8-1.
The Flyers broke through again in the top of the seventh with three more runs which made it 11-1 in favor of Lewis. Nilles ripped a two-run double to right center field which scored
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) and Bontrager to give Lewis a 10-1 lead.
Hoffman made it 11-1 after an RBI single to the left side which scored Nilles. Lewis was able get three outs in the bottom of the seventh and won the game.
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (11-0) recorded the complete game victory as the sophomore tossed all seven innings, allowing one run, giving up seven hits, issuing one walk and striking out six.
GAME 2: Lewis 11, Missouri-St. Louis 2 (5 innings)

GAME 2 SUMMARY
Lewis started the game with a bang as Powell and Frafjord hit back-to-back jacks to make it 2-0. Powell hit her fifth home run of the season while Frafjord recorded her sixth.
The Flyers doubled its lead in the second inning after
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) ripped a two-run RBI single, scoring Nilles and Calderon to make it 4-0. Lewis went on to score seven more times in the third inning for an 11-0 lead.
Powell scored after
Evie Calderon (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) reached on a dropped fly by the left fielder to make it 5-0. Wuske hit a sacrifice fly to left field which scored Frafjord and extended the lead out to 6-0.
Graham reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Bontrager extending it out to 7-0. Nilles singled home Calderon to make it 8-0.
Hoffman gave Lewis the 11-0 lead after recording a three-run inside-the-park home run which plated Garden and Graham. This was Hoffman's second home run of the season.
Missouri-St. Louis got one back in the bottom half of the fourth inning to make it 11-1. The Tritons scored another run in the bottom of the fifth inning but it was not enough as the Flyers won via mercy rule, 11-2 in five innings.
Garden (11-4) recorded the win in the circle after going five frames, allowing two runs (one earned), scattering seven hits, walking none and striking out four.

Lewis softball will be back in action Tuesday (April 2) as the Flyers travel to Kensoha, Wis. and play a doubleheader at Parkside starting at 1 p.m. CT.
