INDIANAPOLIS -- The Lewis University softball team dropped a pair of close Great Lakes Valley Conference contests against the No. 5 team in the country Indianapolis Saturday (April 6). The Greyhounds won the first game, 2-0, then took the second 4-3.

GAME 1: Indianapolis 2, Lewis 0

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Both teams did not score in the first four innings but had their chances. Lewis had runners on third and second with one out in the opening frame but was unable to score. 

The Flyers had another scoring chance in the fourth inning after Lewis had runners on second and first to start the frame but Indianapolis was able to get out of it without allowing a run.  The Greyhounds were able to break through in the bottom of the fifth inning with a pair of runs which made it 2-0. 

Lewis was unable to rally and did not score in the sixth and seventh inning as Indianapolis won 2-0.

Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (11-1) suffered her first setback of the season as the sophomore tossed six innings, allowing two runs (none earned), giving up five hits, issuing four walks and striking out six.

GAME 2: Indianapolis 4, Lewis 3

GAME 2 SUMMARY
Neither team scored in the first three innings of the second game. Indianapolis struck first in the bottom of the fourth with a run to make it 1-0.

Lewis responded the next half inning with a pair of runs to go up 2-1. Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge) started off the frame with a hit by pitch, Evie Calderon (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) reached on fielder's choice, Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) walked then Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) ripped a RBI single which scored Bontrager then later scored Calderon off an Indianapolis error to make it 2-1.

Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) extended the Lewis lead to 3-1 in the sixth after hitting her seventh home run of the season, a solo shot to left center. The Greyhounds responded with a three-run frame in the sixth which gave UIndy a 4-3 advantage. 

The Flyers tried to rally in the seventh inning but Indianapolis was able to get the three outs needed and won the second game 4-3.

Garden (11-5) recorded the loss in the circle after going six innings, giving up three hits, allowing four runs (none earned), walking one and striking out seven.

Lewis softball will be back in action Wednesday (April 10) as the Flyers travel to Ohio Dominican and play a doubleheader against the Panthers starting at noon CT.
