INDIANAPOLIS -- The Great Lakes Valley Conference announced its all-conference selections for women's basketball Wednesday (March 6), with Lewis University receiving four All-GLVC honors.
Grace Hilber (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) earned unanimous first team honors, while
Jenna Badali (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley),
Taylor Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) and
Kathryn Schmidt (Hampshire, Ill./Burlington Central) were all named to the second team. Additionally,
Alayna Soukup (Lake Zurich, Ill./Lake Zurich) was named Lewis' James R. Spalding Sportsmanship Award Honoree.
Hilber earned her third consecutive first team All-GLVC spot after leading the Flyers and ranking No. 7 in the conference in scoring at 16.6 points per game on 42.5% shooting from the field. The graduate student also led Lewis in three-point shooting, averaging 2.3 three-point baskets per game (64 total, No. 6 in GLVC) and connecting on 37.9% of her attempts from deep (No. 4 in GLVC). She also averaged 4.0 rebounds per game, 2.2 assists and had 27 steals while playing and starting all 28 games for the Flyers this season.
Badali was named second team All-GLVC for the second consecutive year and her third total All-GLVC selection, after leading Lewis in assists and placing fourth in the conference with 4.5 assists per game. The redshirt junior was second on the team in points per game (13.1), three-point shooting (49/140, 35.0%) and free-throw shooting (73/89, 82.0%), averaged 4.4 rebounds per game and grabbed 48 steals (No. 6 in GLVC) while playing and starting 26 games for the Flyers.
Gugliuzza earned her second consecutive second team All-GLVC honor and third total All-GLVC selection after averaging 12.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. The senior led the Flyers in shooting percentage from the field (min. 5 attempts per game) at 44.4%, took the most free throws on the team, going 110/154 (71.4%), had 41 steals and 11 blocks and started all 28 games for Lewis this year.
Schmidt was named second team All-GLVC for the third time in her career, and earned her fourth total All-GLVC honor, after leading the Flyers with 6.3 rebounds per game. The senior averaged 11.9 points per game, led Lewis in free-throw percentage at 85.1% (No. 6 in GLVC, 57/67), dished out 1.7 assists per game and had 28 steals and 11 blocks on the defensive end while playing in 26 games this season, starting 25.
Soukup played in 19 games this season, coming off the bench in all of them and scored 21 points while picking up 11 assists, 10 rebounds and four steals.
Lewis women's basketball earned the regular season championship and No. 1 seed in the GLVC Tournament, and will face off against No. 8-seed UMSL in the quarterfinals on Thursday (March 7) at 12 p.m. CT in St. Charles, Mo.
