Lewis Men's Lacrosse Wins Fifth Straight; Defeats William Jewell Saturday

LIBERTY, Mo. - The Lewis University men's lacrosse team defeated William Jewell 14-6 for its fifth straight victory, including four in a row in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, Saturday (April 13).

GAME SUMMARY 
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 3, William Jewell 1
Baden Boyenko (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada/St. Joseph HS / Genesee Community College) started the scoring for the Flyers in the opening minute as he found the back of the net at the 14:15 mark in the first. William Jewell responded to tie it at 1-1 with its only goal of the first after finding the back of the net with 10:47 remaining.

Clement gave Lewis a 2-1 lead after recording his first goal of the contest with 1:46 left. On the ensuing faceoff, Clement found Good to extend the lead out to 3-1.

SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 3, William Jewell 1
Lewis recorded the first two goals of the second quarter to make it four unanswered to give the Flyers a 5-1 lead. AJ Baumley (Huntley, Illinois/Huntley HS) found Clement at the 13:29 mark which made it 4-1.

Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/Pitt Meadows Secondary School) found Michael Metheny (Fishers, Indiana/Hamilton Southeastern HS) with 10:57 left which extended the lead to 5-1. William Jewell got the ensuing goal to stop the run to make it 5-2 with 6:51 remaining. 

Good was able to score his first goal of the contest in the final 2:02 of the first half which gave Lewis a 6-2 lead. Rathe recorded five saves in the second quarter. 

THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 2, William Jewell 2
Kevin Blaz (McHenry, Illinois/Marian Central Catholic HS) found McLean as McLean hit the back of the net to make it 7-2. William Jewell got the goal right back less than a minute later which cut it to 7-3. 

Schroeder fed it into Paul Ruskoski (Tulsa, Oklahoma/Bishop Kelley HS) with a man-up chance and scored a goal, giving Lewis an 8-3 advantage. The Cardinals were able to get its next goal on a man-up opportunity as well to make it 8-4 Flyers.

FOURTH QUARTER: Lewis 6, William Jewell 2
McLean started the scoring in the fourth quarter which gave Lewis a 9-4 lead. The Cardinals got the goal right back just 43 seconds later which made it 9-5. 

Lewis responded with three straight goals which gave the Flyers an 12-5 advantage. Metheny found Good for the score which made it 10-5. 

22 seconds later, McLean picked up his third goal of the contest with 7:28 to play in the game. Dominic Bravata (Portage, Michigan/Portage Northern HS) extended it out to 12-5 with a goal with 6:28 remaining. 

Seven seconds later, William Jewell won the face-off and was able to drive the field and score its last goal of the contest which made it 12-6. Lewis scored the final two goals of the contest to close it out 14-6.

Schroeder recorded his second assist of the contest as he found Clement for his third goal with 4:49 to play. With 18 seconds left, Schroeder found the open man again as he fed it into Nick Sheedy (Rosemount, Minnesota/Rosemount HS) for the score which made it 14-6.

Lewis men's lacrosse will travel to Indianapolis on Saturday (April 20) to take on No. 11 University of Indianapolis starting at 11 a.m. CT.
