Lewis Women's Lacrosse Falls to GLVC Leader #6 Maryville Friday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Lewis University women's lacrosse team fell 22-6 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference contest against No. 6 and GLVC leader Maryville Friday (April 19).

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Maryville 6, Lewis 2
Maryville started the first seven minutes with five unanswers goals to go ahead 5-0 early. Bowen was able to find Catherine Roney (Barrington, Ill./Saint Viator) as the Flyers got on the board to make it 5-1. 

33 seconds later, the Saints responded with the next goal to go back up by five (6-1). Bowen found the back of the net for the goal to make it 6-2 in favor of Maryville. 

SECOND QUARTER: Maryville 6, Lewis 2
Maryville scored the first four goals of the second quarter which gave the Saints a 10-2 advantage with 8:10 to play in the first half. Able found Winterlik for the score with 6:10 remaining in the first half. 

The Saints went on to score the next two goals of the period to grab a 12-3 lead. Bowen found an opening again as the junior found Winterlik with three seconds left to put Lewis back on the board. 

THIRD QUARTER: Maryville 4, Lewis 1
Maryville opened up the second half with three straight goals to give them a 15-4 advantage with five minutes to play in the third. Able found Heidi Sweeney (New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada/New Westminster) with the opening and she found the back of the net to make it 15-5.

The Saints had the final goal of the third which gave them a 16-5 lead. 

FOURTH QUARTER: Maryville 6, Lewis 1
MU built on its lead with the first pair of goals in the fourth period to extend its lead to 18-5. Bowen was able to convert on a free-position shot which made 18-6 in favor of Maryville with 7:48 to play in the match. 

Maryville closed out the contest with the last four goals to give them a 22-6 lead which would hold for the final.

FINAL SCORE: Maryville 22, Lewis 6

UP NEXT
Lewis women's lacrosse host its final regular season contest against McKendree Sunday (April 21) at noon CT at Lewis Stadium. It will be senior day for the Flyers.
