FAYETTE, Iowa -- The Lewis University softball recorded its second straight sweep of the weekend as the Flyers defeated Upper Iowa in both games Sunday (April 21). The Flyers won the first game 8-1 then won the second 1-0.

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Lewis started the scoring early as the Flyers put up three runs in the opening frame for an early 3-0 lead.
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) started the scoring with a sacrifice fly which scored
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) to make it 1-0.
A few batters later,
Evie Calderon (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) made it 3-0 after she hit a two-run single to left field which scored
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) and
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School). Upper Iowa got one run back in the bottom of the second inning to make it 3-1 in favor of Lewis.
The Flyers added three more runs in the top of the third inning to give them a 6-1 lead. Calderon ripped a two-run triple to center field which scored Graham and
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) to make it 5-1.Â
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) was able to reach on an Upper Iowa error which scored Calderon giving Lewis a 6-1 advantage. Lewis tacked on a pair of runs in the fourth inning to extend its lead to 8-1 in the frame.Â
Calderon recorded another RBI as the senior was hit by the pitch which scored Hoffman to make it 7-1. Wuske hit a flyout which scored Powell to make it 8-1 in favor of Lewis.
Garden (15-6) picked up the complete game victory after going all seven innings, allowing three hits, giving up one run (unearned) and striking out five.

GAME 2 SUMMARY
Lewis scored the lone run of the game in the first inning. Garden started the game with a double, Hoffman singled then Powell scored Garden with an RBI ground out to make it 1-0.Â

Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (14-2) threw a complete game shutout as the sophomore threw all seven innings, allowing only two hits and striking out three.
