ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team split its home doubleheader against Illinois-Springfield Thursday (April 25). The Flyers won the first game 1-0 while the Prairie Stars took the second 9-3.
GAME 1: Lewis 1, Illinois-Springfield 0

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Illinois-Springfield had a scoring chance in the fourth inning after having runners on third and second with one out but Lewis was able escape further damage. Lewis had a chance to take the lead in the fifth after
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) and
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) singled but the Prairie Stars escaped further damage by getting the third out.
The Flyers were able to walk off in the bottom of seventh after
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) walked, Nilles singled then Garden recorded the game-winning RBI single to right field which scored Wuske.
Garden (16-6) picked up the complete game victory after going all seven innings, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out nine.
GAME 2: Illinois-Springfield 9, Lewis 3

GAME 2 SUMMARY
UIS broke through in the opening frame as the Prairie Stars scored three times in the opening inning to go up 3-0 early. Lewis responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half to cut it down to 3-2.
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) drove home Garden with an RBI up the middle which scored Garden to make it 3-1.
Evie Calderon (Chicago, IL/Whitney Young) made it 3-2 after hitting a bunt groundout which scored Powell.
Illinois-Springfield got one run in the top of the second inning to extend its lead to 4-2. Lewis got it right back in the bottom of the frame after Garden singled to left which scored Wuske to make it 4-3.
The Prairie Stars got another run in the top of the third which made it 5-3 in favor of UIS. UIS broke the game open in the fourth inning with a three-run frame which brought its lead to 8-3.
UIS made it 9-3 after plating another run in the top of the fifth.
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (14-3) suffered the loss in the circle after going three innings, allowing seven hits, giving up five runs (two earned), walking one and striking out two.
