LIBERTY, Mo. - The Lewis University baseball team split a doubleheader at William Jewell College Friday (April 26). The Cardinals won game one, 11-10, and the Flyers won game two 12-6.

GAME 1 SUMMARY
William Jewell scored four runs in the bottom of the first capped off by a home run. Lewis scored one in the top of the second as back-to-back walks with two outs set up a
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) single to center field to score
George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and made it 4-1.
The Cardinals added two more runs in the second and one in the bottom of the third to increase its lead to 7-1. The Flyers scored again in the top of the fourth to cut into the deficit.
Bilecki doubled and later scored on a single by
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) to make it 7-2. Jewell scored again in the bottom half and it was 8-2.
Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill.) doubled and later scored a single by
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) plus an error on the Cardinals in the fifth to get back to 8-3. William Jewell added a two-run home run in the bottom half to go ahead 10-3.
Lewis came charging back from there with two runs in the seventh and four in the eighth to get within one run.
Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to spearhead the comeback.
With the bases loaded in the eighth inning,
Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) singled home
Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and Headrick, and McDevitt later added a two-run double to plate Keaty and Fox and bring the score to 10-9. A solo home run by the Cardinals made it 11-9 heading to the ninth.
Bilecki hit a solo bomb to get within one, and Alt singled and reached second base before back-to-back strikeouts ended the game with Jewell winning 11-10.
Dylan Wolff (Joliet, Ill.) (5-3) was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) in four innings on nine hits and one walk with two strikeouts.
GAME 2 TEAM RECORDS
Lewis 24-20 (16-14 GLVC) | William Jewell 26-18 (16-14 GLVC)
GAME 2 SUMMARY
Lewis jumped ahead early in game two and never looked back, scoring three in the first inning and four in the top of the second to go up 7-0. McDevitt got the scoring started with a solo homer.
Later in the first, Bilecki singled to score Krol, and
Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) came home on an error to cap off the scoring in the inning. To start the second, Headrick singled, Keaty doubled, and Fox drilled a homer to left center to bring them both home.
Kocen singled and later scored on a single by Krol to cap off the scoring in the frame. A solo home run by William Jewell in the bottom of the second made it 7-1.
Fox hit another home run, this time a solo shot, in the third to restore the lead to 8-1. A second home run for the Cardinals made it 8-2 in the bottom half.
The Flyers added two runs in the fourth inning with Headrick singling to score Cantelo before Keaty brought Alt across the plate on a sacrifice fly. Jewell hit another home run to bring the score to 10-3 in the bottom of the fourth.
Krol and Cantelo hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the fifth, with Krol bringing home Kocen before Cantelo drove him in, pushing the Lewis lead to 12-3. Two more home runs for the Cardinals made it 12-6 in the bottom of the inning, as William Jewell scored all of its runs in game two via the homer.
Neither team scored the rest of the way as
Jackson Bruno (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep) came on for the final 2 2/3 innings for Lewis, giving up no hits or walks with one strikeout.
Michael Sclafani (Oak Brook, Ill./Montini Catholic) (6-4) earned the win after going 4 1/3 innings and allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk with two punchouts.
