LIBERTY, Mo. - The Lewis University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at William Jewell College Saturday (April 27). The Cardinals won game one, 15-7, and game two 15-1.
GAME 1 TEAM RECORDS
William Jewell 27-18 (17-14 GLVC) | Lewis 24-21 (16-15 GLVC)
GAME 1 SUMMARY
Lewis started fast, scoring two runs in the top of the first as each of the first four batters reached base safely.
Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) led off with a double and later scored on
Chris McDevitt's (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) single, followed by
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) hitting an RBI single to score
Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill.) to make it 2-0.
William Jewell scored one run in the bottom of the first, and the Flyers got it right back in the second as Kocen hit an RBI double to bring home
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin). The Cardinals added two runs in the second to tie it at three.
Lewis tacked on another run in the third as Keaty had an RBI groundout that sent
George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) across the plate but Jewell scored two in the bottom half to take its first lead of the game at 5-4. The Flyers jumped back ahead on a three-run home run by Bilecki, scoring Krol and
Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic), in the top of the fourth that made it 7-5.
Unfortunately for Lewis, that was all the Flyers would score. After the Cardinals scored one in the bottom of the fourth, a nine-run fifth inning made it 15-7 WJC and that score held through the end of the game.
Ryan Manikowski (New Lenox, Ill./Providence) (0-3) took the loss on the mound, allowing three runs in 2/3 of an inning on one hit and one walk with one strikeout.
