Long Ball Leads Lewis Past No. 20 Indianapolis 5-2 Friday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team defeated No. 20 Indianapolis 5-2 Friday (May 2) at Brennan Field. The Flyers ended the Greyhounds' 11-game win streak thanks to three home runs.

TEAM RECORDS
Indianapolis 32-15 overall, 27-6 in Great Lakes Valley Conference | Lewis 25-22, 17-16 GLVC

GAME SUMMARY
Lewis got on the board first as Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) singled in the bottom of the second to score Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill.). The Flyers would extend their lead in the fourth inning when Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) belted an 0-2 pitch over the fence to make it 2-0.

The Greyhounds cut the lead in half in the sixth inning on a sacrifice bunt, and then evened the score in the top of the seventh on a home run.

The lead was short lived though as Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) hit a two-run home run to straightaway center field. The next batter, Kocen, followed with a homer to right field to add an insurance run and make it a 5-2 game.

Indianapolis threatened in the top of the ninth inning, bringing the tying run to the plate after a pair of walks, but a fielder's choice ended the game.

McDevitt and Kocen each had three hits to lead the Flyers, while Fox and Krol had two hits each.

Dylan Wolff (Joliet, Ill.) started for the Flyers and got a no-decision, going six innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out nine. Jackson Bruno (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep) (4-1) earned the win, allowing one hit over the final three innings of the contest.
