ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University Athletic Department announced STUNT as its 23
rd sport that will begin during the 2024-25 school year.
STUNT is one of the fastest growing female sports in the country. The sport removes the crowd-leading element and focuses on the technical and athletic components of cheer, including partner stunts, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps and tumbling. These elements are put together in short routines that both teams must perform head-to-head on the floor at the same time.
The team that executes the skills best wins the round and the point and will determine which routine level will be called next. There are four total quarters of play, partner stunts, pyramids & tosses, jumps & tumbling, and team routine.
"As we continue to implement our Athletic Strategic Plan that will continue to enhance the student experience on campus," Lewis Assistant Vice President for Athletics John Ashaolu said. "I am excited to add STUNT as our next sport offering and to provide an equitable opportunity for talented female student-athletes to be a part of Flyer Athletic Department. STUNT continues to grow as a sport across the NCAA Division II landscape and we are proud to add this sport to our highly successful athletic department."
