Lewis Women's Lacrosse Defeats William Jewell Friday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's lacrosse team won its first Great Lakes Valley Conference contest of the season as the Flyers defeated William Jewell 22-9 Friday (April 5) at Lewis Stadium.

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: William Jewell 5, Lewis 5
William Jewell started the contest with a pair of goals in the first four minutes to make it 2-0. Lewis bounced back with a couple of goals of its own which both came from Winterlik to tie it at 2-2.

The Cardinals responded with the ensuing goal to regain the lead at 3-2. The Flyers rallied for three straight goals which gave them a 5-3 advantage. 

Serritella found Davidson as she tied it at 3-3 at the 9:19 mark in the first. Serritella then gave the Flyers a 4-3 lead after recording the next goal at the 7:24 mark.

Bowen was able to extend the lead out to 5-3 for her 35th goal of the season with 3:37 remaining in the first. William Jewell closed out the quarter with a pair of goals to tie it heading to the second.

SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 6, William Jewell 1
Lewis started the second quarter with four unanswered goals to go up 9-5. Winterlik was able to find Procyk in the opening minute of the period to give Lewis back the lead.

Winterlik was able to score on her own after drawing a foul and recorded the free-position goal which gave the Flyers a 7-5 advantage. Not even 30 seconds later, Bowen picked up the free-position goal as well to make it 8-5 with 11:36 to play before halftime.

24 seconds later, Davidson found Heidi Sweeney (New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada/New Westminster) for the goal, giving Lewis a 9-5 lead. William Jewell responded with its lone goal of the second quarter with 3:46 to play. 

Bowen got the goal right back with a free-position shot, making it 10-6 in favor of the Flyers. Sweeney closed out the first half with a goal off the pass from Davidson with 48 seconds left.
 
THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 7, William Jewell 2
Lewis scored the first two goals of second half as Serritella notched both of them, one off the pass from Davidson and one from Bowen which made it 13-6 Lewis. William Jewell got one back to cut into the deficit at 13-7. 

Serritella found the back of the net again for the Flyers to make it 14-7. The Cardinals were able to score its second goal of the quarter a little over two minutes later to make it 14-8 Lewis. 

Lewis closed out the third frame with four straight goals in a little over four minutes which gave it an 18-8 lead. Procyk found Serritella for the score at the 4:02 mark to make it 15-8.

Winterlik recorded back-to-back goals to tack onto the lead and the second was a free-position shot. With 12 seconds left in the third, Bowen notched her fourth goal of the contest and her 38th of the season to make it 18-8 and force running clock.

FOURTH QUARTER: Lewis 4, William Jewell 1
The Flyers picked up where they left off and scored the first two goals of the final period to make it 20-8. Davidson found Sweeney for the score and Bowen had a free-position shot for the goal. 

William Jewell was able to record its final goal of the contest with 7:12 to go which made it 20-9. Lewis closed it out with a pair of goals of its own to make it 22-9.

Emma Stanek (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North) recorded her seventh goal of the season with a free-position shot with 4:23 to go. Winterlik found the back of the net again with 1:53 to play which gave Lewis a 22-9 advantage and that score would hold for the rest of the game.

FINAL SCORE: Lewis 22, William Jewell 9
