ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University men's soccer team had its 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference home opener Friday (Sept. 20) as the Flyers and Upper Iowa ended in a 1-1 draw.

HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half: Upper Iowa 1, Lewis 0 
Upper Iowa recorded a pair of shots in the first five minutes of the contest but one was off target and the other was saved. The Peacocks broke through in the 10' after Mateo Rodriguez found Thomas Walle for the score to make it 1-0. 

Lewis looked to tie after Perez recorded a pair of shots but none found the back of the net. Godwin Asore (Kumasi, Ghana/Putnam Science Academy) had a scoring chance in the 39' after finding an opening but Upper Iowa was right there with the save. 

Second Half: Lewis 1, Upper Iowa 0
The Flyers had a prime chance to tie it at 1-1 in the 56' as Perez recorded a shot but it hit the post and Revell recorded a shot attempt off the rebound but it was saved. A few minutes later, Gorodnickis was able to break through in the 59' and find the back of the net to make tie it 1-1.

Lewis looked to quickly take the lead after a pair of shots from Sam Abreu (Middleton, Wis./) and Czosynka but were off target to it tied 1-1. Gorodnicks looked to score his second goal of the contest in the 74' to take the lead but it was saved. 

Upper Iowa had one more chance to score after finding an opening in the 89' but Doppelhofer was right there with the save.
