ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University men's soccer team defeated William Jewell with a header by Arturs Gordonickis in the 88' off the corner kick from
Justin Darlage (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) Friday (Sept. 27) as the Flyers defeated the Cardinals 1-0.

HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half: Lewis 0, William Jewell 0
Lewis looked to strike early and grab an early 1-0 lead after recording three shots in the first four minutes but all were off target. The Flyers had more scoring chances in the 15' and 18' after
Erik Alqvist (Helsingborg, Sweden/Hittarps IK Football Club) and Gorodnickis both recorded shots on target but both were saved.
Lewis tried to grab the lead again after having another scoring chance after Asore and
Stefan Ziermann (Vienna, Austria/University of Economics) both recorded shots on goal but they were saved. William Jewell responded with its only shot on target in the match during the 32' but Doppelhofer was right there with the save.
Asore found an opening in the 42' looking to make it 1-0 at the break but his shot was saved again to keep it scoreless.
Second Half: Lewis 1, William Jewell 0
Lewis recorded shots in the first 25 minutes of the second half but none were on target to keep it at 0-0.
Mikey Revell (Largo, Maryland/Bishop McNamara) had a scoring chance in the 82' but his shot was saved.
Darlage lined up for a corner kick in the 88' then passed it into Gordonickis and he headed it in to make it 1-0. That turned out to be the lone goal of the contest with Lewis winning 1-0.
