ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's soccer team recorded a tie with Roosevelt 1-1 in both teams' season-opening match Thursday (Sept. 5) at Lewis Stadium.

HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half: Lewis 1, Roosevelt 0
The first period began with shots from Roosevelt followed by shots by Lewis from Harvey and Maher. Around the midpoint of the first period, Culver put the Flyers on the board with a goal to make it 1-0 off a rebound from a shot by Aleyia Cisneros (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove).
No more shots on goal were made for the rest of the half. Graziosi made three saves in the first half.
Second Half: Roosevelt 1, Lewis 0
Lewis looked to double its lead early to start the second half after Maher recorded a shot but missed right. Culver had a scoring chance in the 58th minute but her shot was saved by the Roosevelt goalie.
Olivia Zediker (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) recorded a pair of shots in the 63rd and 68th minute but they were both saved. Melisa Hadzic (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton Warrenville South) went on the attack for Lewis in the 71st minute but her shot was also saved.
Roosevelt was able to respond and tie the contest at 1-1 after Paola Macias found the back of the net in the 76th minute. Lewis put up three shots the rest of the contest but all were off target.
The Lakers looked to take the lead late, recording three shots on goal in the final nine minutes but Graziosi was able to record saves to keep it tied at 1-1.
