ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The
Lewis men's cross country team finished in second place in the Lewis University Early Bird with 37 points to open the 2024 season on Friday (September 6) at the Lewis Cross Country Course. The Flyers finished 10 points behind first place Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) who finished with 27 points. The Flyers were ahead of four other teams, Purdue Northwest (Ind.), Indiana Tech, Dominican (Ill.) and Indiana Tech Developmental.
Olivet Nazarene's (Ill.) Flynn Prather placed first in the men's four mile race with a time of 19:27.11. Lewis finished with five runners in the top ten.
Junior
Matthew Torres (Westmont, IL/Math and Science Academy) was the first runner for Lewis to cross the finish line with a time of 19:43.49 placing fifth. Not far behind him was senior
Cole Sutton (O'Fallon, Mo./Drury) who placed sixth with a time of 19:48.11. while sophomore
Gabriel Cates (Purcellville, Vir./Loudoun Valley) finished with a similar time of 19:48.35. Fifth-year runner
Casey Quintana (Mishawaka, Ind./Mishawaka) placed next at ninth place with a time of 19:56.41 with sophomore
Luke Noren (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) finishing after Quintana with a time of 19:57.85 earning him tenth place. Sixth place was earned by sophomore
Nick Paugys (Minooka, Ill./Minooka) who had a time of 19:59.32 for Lewis and redshirt junior Dillon Pottschmidt rounded out the top ten finishes for the Flyer's taking tenth place with a time of 20:11.53.
