GAME SUMMARY
Cierra McNamee (Moline, Ill./Illinois Central College) began the game quickly with a layup on the first possession of the game followed by a three by Cesarini. The Cardinals scored their first point of the game on a trip to the bread line. The Flyers rattled off a few more points thanks to contributions by Cesarini and
Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) to give themselves a 10-1 lead.
The Flyers continued to out pace the Cardinals in the final minutes of the first quarter. Badali went two for two from the free throw line, followed by a good layup by Campanelli, which sent her to the line to complete the three-point play. Nunnally flushed one home with 32 seconds remaining in the quarter in which Lewis got the ball back as the clock ran down and Badali threw up a three before the buzzer to make it a 22-11 game heading into the second.
A bit of a dry spell for both squads to start off the second was broken by Bueno, who threw one down from beyond the arc. The Flyers got back to their scoring ways, with Lasu putting up her first points of the night off a mid-range jump shot. Bueno went two for two from the free throw line, followed by a jumper from Nunnally and Sami Campanelli's first basket of the game.
Tara Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) joined in on the offensive effort with another layup by Campanelli. Another few minutes without scoring from both sides lead the game into halftime in favor of the Flyers, with a score of 39-28.
Taylor Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) was fouled at the start of the third which sent her to the line for two good shots. Gugliuzza would gather the next four points for the Flyers to give them a 45-33 lead.
The final minutes of the quarter saw points from Cesarini and threes by Gugliuzza and Cesarini. The Flyers lead 57-39 at the end of the third quarter.
The Flyers were outscored 26-17 in the fourth quarter with many of those Cardinals points coming from the free throw line. William Jewell scored first, followed by a putback by Nunnally on her team-leading 12-point night.
Jasmine Jones (Bolingbrook, IL/Bolingbrook) put in a good shot from the mid-range off the bench, with the Gugluzzas still contributing with a layup halfway through the fourth. Lasu grabbed a few more points off of free throws and the last Lewis point was notched in by
Ana Haklicka (Dubrovnik, Croatia/Chicago State) to give The Flyers a 74-65 win.
