LIBERTY, Mo. -- The Lewis University men's basketball team was able to hang on against William Jewell Thursday (Jan. 16) as
Rob Stroud (Danville, Ill./Kankakee CC) made a basket with two seconds left as the Flyers defeated the Cardinals 67-66 for its seventh straight victory.

GAME SUMMARY
Both teams traded seven points each to begin the contest. Lewis scored eight unanswered capped off by a three-point play by Gibson which made it 15-7.
William Jewell responded with back-to-back buckets to make it a one-score game at 15-12. Later in the half, Lewis extended its lead to 28-21 after a three-pointer by
Paxton Warden (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) at the 8:30 mark.
The Cardinals responded with five straight, making it a one score game again at 28-26 with 6:40 to play.
Anthony Sayles Jr. (Evanston, Ill./Notre Dame Prep) knocked down a triple, making it 33-28 with 4:27 remaining before the break.
Lewis went on a scoring drought the last four minutes of the first half with WJC scoring the next nine unanswered for a 37-33 advantage going into the break.
Gibson started the second half with a layup which carried some momentum after making a three-pointer moments later to give Lewis a 40-39 lead. The Flyers held onto their lead while both teams were held to no baskets for three minutes.
Renfro ended the drought after making a layup giving Lewis a 47-42 lead with 14:29 remaining in the contest. William Jewell made it 49-45 in favor of Lewis before a basket from Stroud and a three-pointer by Vanderheydt extended the Flyers lead out to 54-45 at the 12:42 mark.
The Cardinals went on to score eight unanswered which made it a one-point game (54-53) with 8:23 left in the game. Stroud put an end to the Lewis drought with the ensuing basket.
William Jewell scored nine in a row which capped off a 17-2 run in five minutes giving the Cardinals a 62-56 advantage with 3:43 remaining. Lewis responded with some free throws down the stretch to make it a one-point game again at 65-
64 with 18 seconds to go.
The Cardinals split a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left to go up 66-64. Lewis got the in bound and Gibson found Stroud on top of the key and Stroud knocked down the triple with two seconds remaining as the Flyers were able to defeat the Cardinals 67-66.

Lewis will be back in action Saturday, January 18 as the Flyers travel to Truman State to take on the Bulldogs starting at 3 p.m. CT.
