Romeoville, Ill., - An early second half goal scored by
Hubert Grele (Bridgeview, Ill./Argo HS) lead the Lewis men's soccer team to victory against the Tritons of the University of Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday at Lewis Stadium.
The Lewis Flyers are now 4-4-6 overall with a 3-4-3 conference record while Missouri-St. Louis drop to 4-4-5 and 3-3-4 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite three early corners and pressure throughout the first half, Flyers goalkeeper
Jeremiah Higgins (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) and the rest of the defense kept the Tritons off the board to send both sides into the locker room tied at zerio.
The Flyers came out in the second half on the attack and got an early corner in the 47th minute, but unfortunately a
Hampus Ryno (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Aranäsgymnasiet) header was saved by the Tritons keeper. Moments later in the 50th minute,
Hubert Grele (Bridgeview, Ill./Argo HS) collected a ball from
Mario Ramirez (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle Institute) and buried a shot in the back of the net to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead over the Tritons. Lewis limited UMSL to just one shot the rest of the way en route to their 1-0 win.
Both goalies played a full 90 minutes with
Jeremiah Higgins (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) making his second start of the season and securing a clean sheet with one save. Jack Franklin of the Tritons ended the match with one save and one goal allowed.
