St. Louis, Mo. - In a rematch of the 2024 GLVC Tournament Championship Lewis men's soccer walked away with another tie against the Maryville Saints.
Lewis is now 4-4-7 overall with a GLVC record of 3-4-4 while the Saints become 7-5-2 with a 6-4-1 conference record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Flyers struck early on Friday with a goal from Senior
Stefan Ziermann (Vienna, Austria/University of Economics). It began with a Lewis corner kick that was sent back out to the corner and returned back to the box by
Roman Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora East), the Maryville keeper got a hand on it but it found the body of Ziermann who controlled it and hammered a shot into the upper right corner. The rest of the half would be scoreless and Lewis went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Maryville would respond nearly 50 minutes later at the 60:47 mark when a late foul call in the box would set the Saints up for a penalty kick. Jacob Lund-Iversen put a shot into the net to tie the game at one. Both teams continued to maintain offensive pressure and go for chances but the game would end in a 1-1 draw.
Both goalies allowed one goal while playing a full 90 minutes,
Jeremiah Higgins (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) with two diving saves for the Flyers with Vidsson Asgrimur with three saves for Maryville.
GAME NOTES
- Ziermann's first goal of the season his his first goal since the 2022 campaign.
- Hernandez is back on top as the assist leader for the Flyers with four and s now tied for second most in the conference.
- In his six appearances and three starts this season, Higgins is averaging less than one goal allowed a game.(.96)
