Women's Basketball Dealt Loss in Opening Game of the Season

Box Score Wisconsin Dells, Wis. - The Lewis University women's basketball team dropped their first game of the season Friday night after a hard-fought battle against GLIAC opponent Michigan Tech at the NCAA DII Midwest Region Tip-Off

IMPACT PLAYERS
The Huskies had three players score in double figures: Soraya Timms (17 points), Alyssa Wypych (14), and Janie Tormanen (13). Wypych led the team in rebounds with nine, while Timms dished out a team-high four assists.

For Lewis, sophomore Yahaira Bueno (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) delivered a game-high 21 points, while Ally Cesarini (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) added 10 points and six rebounds. Both played 38 minutes. Off the bench, Mercy Lasu (Winnipeg, Canada/D'Youville) contributed eight points, two rebounds, and one steal in just 13 minutes of action.

HOW IT HAPPENEED
Lewis was outscored 25–11 in the first quarter, putting the Flyers in an early deficit. They responded in the second, outscoring the Huskies 12–9. Cesarini made several trips to the free-throw line, adding four points from the stripe. Mallory Ramage (Mattoon, IL/Loyola-Chicago) hit a jumper to bring the Flyers within ten with eight minutes left in the half. Bueno and Gabi Hoover (Mishawaka, Ind./La Lumiere) added back-to-back layups before the buzzer, but Michigan Tech closed the half strong, leading 34–23.

The Huskies came out of halftime firing, scoring quickly in the first four minutes to extend their lead to 40–23. Bueno sparked a third-quarter run with a three-pointer, followed by layups from Lasu and Cesarini that brought Lewis within seven points with 1:28 remaining in the quarter.

That would be the closest the Flyers came to closing the gap, as Michigan Tech maintained a steady double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter. The season opener ended with a final score of 68–55 in favor of the Huskies
