Women's Soccer Clinches Postseason Berth with Senior Day Victory

Romeoville, Ill. - In the final game of the regular season, the Lewis University women's soccer team punched their ticket to the 2025 GLVC Women's Soccer Championship with a 2-0 win over the University of Indianapolis Sunday afternoon at Lewis Stadium.

The Flyers ended the regular season with a 7-5-5 overall mark (6-5-3 GLVC) while the Greyhounds ended the year with an overall record of 1-11-4 (1-10-3). It marks the first time since the 2023 campaign that Lewis qualified for the postseason.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The red and white got the scoring going early as Kali Sweet (Hudson, Ohio/Louisiana-Monroe) received a cross off a corner from Timea Rojnik (Bratislava, Slovakia/British Internnational) and sent the ball into the back of the net to get the Flyers on the board first.

Despite numerous shots over the remainder of the half, UIndy kept Lewis out from the back of the net and held them at 1-0.

Less than two minutes out of halftime, the Flyers doubled their advantage thanks to a Breanna Culver (Roscoe, Ill./Wisconsin-Milwaukee) goal which was assisted by Jada Harvey (Roscoe, Ill./Rockford Christian)

The Flyers never relinquished their lead and held on to win, 2-0, and punched their ticket to the GLVC Women's Soccer Championship.

Lewis ended the day with a 18-5 edge in shots, 9-2 advantage in shots on goal and dominated corner kicks with a 15-3 lead. Brianna Olynyk (Ardrossan, Alberta, Canada/The Kings University) made her first collegiate start in the win while Caitlin Yurkovich (Bartlet, Ill./College of Dupage) closed out the final 89:22 of the contest and made two saves. As for the Greyhounds, they split halfs with Maria White and Kendall Ellis who combined for seven saves.

MATCH NOTES
  • The Flyers 15 corners are the most in a match this season.
  • Culver tallied her first goal since Oct. 12 at Missouri S&T
