Romeoville, Ill. – In their first home contest of the 2025-26 campaign, the Lewis University men's basketball team fell to GLIAC foe Saginaw Valley State 72-60 in intercollegiate men's basketball action.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 3-0 while the Flyers dipped to 0-3.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Dontez Scott II led SVSU with 18 points while Xavier Thomas chipped in 17 scores of his own. On the glass, Bryson Huckeby nabbed game-best eight boards while Maequese Josephs chipped in three assists. The Cardinals ended the game shooting .441 (26-of-59) from the floor.
Arius Alijosius (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) tallied a team-best 15 points with two triples while
Collin Albert (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran Highschool East) added in 12 scores of his own.
Drew Fisher (Los Angeles, Calif./Crespi Carmelite High School) nabbed four board and a team-best three assists while Timoefi Komissarov and
Arden Eaves (Tinley Park, Ill./Homewood Flossmoor High School) added in four rebounds each. Lewis ended the evening shooting .400 (22-of-25) from the field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Down 26-16 just over halfway through the first half, the Flyers found a spark as an Alijosius driving layup spurned an 11-2 run that cut the Lewis deficit to just three, 28-25, with 3:52 remaining in the first half.
The Cardinals tallied eight of the next nine points and entered halftime with a 36-26 edge.
The two sides traded scores out of the halftime break, but a 15-6 run midway through the frame from the visitors gave them a 19 point cushion at 65-46 with 6:08 remaining. Despite a late 9-2 rally from Lewis that brought them to within 10, 70-60, the visitor Cardinals never relinquished their lead and held on to win 72-60.
GAME NOTES
- Today marked the sixth all-time meeting between the two sides. The series is now tied, 3-3.
- Alijosius has scored 10-or-more points in all three games this year.
- Lewis notched a season-best .733 free-throw percentage.
