Romeoville, Ill. - UIndy outscored the Lewis Men's Basketball team, 48-31, in the second half to comeback and win, 80-67, in the first GLVC contest of the year for both teams Monday evening at Neil Carey Arena.
With the win, the Greyhounds improved to 3-3 (1-0 GLVC) while the Flyers dipped to 0-5 (0-1 GLVC).
IMPACT PLAYERS
Four different Greyhounds finished the contest in double-figures, led by Carmelo Harris with his 17 points with five makes from deep. On the glass, Kelvin Amoako snagged a team-best eight boards while Nathan Dudukovich and Harris each dished out three assists.
Ryan Hall (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) led the Lewis offense with a career-high 28 points with six triples while
Collin Albert (Cleveland, Ohio/Lutheran Highschool East) tallied 10 scores of his own along with a team-best three assists.
Drew Fisher (Los Angeles, Calif./Crespi Carmelite High School) collected seven rebounds while as a team, the Flyers shot 21-of-45 (.467) compared to 26-of-53 (.491) from the floor for UIndy.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Down 27-22 late in a tightly contested first half, the Flyers found a spark as an Albert jumper spurrned a 6-0 run that propelled Lewis ahead, 28-27, with 4:05 left in the opening stanza. After exchanging the next handful of buckets, the red and white gained some breathing room as a Reid Lowen three point play and Hall triple sent Lewis into the locker room with a 36-32 lead.
Out of the break, both regional rivals traded buckets and a dunk from UIndy's Kevin Amoako at the 14:02 mark tied the contest at 47. Lewis replied with a trio of free-throws from Hall to retake the advantage, 50-47, with 13:35 remaining.
Still, the Greyhounds took the lead for good as a Arnold free-throw make served as the start of an 8-0 run that gave UIndy a 55-51 cushion with 10:50 to play. The visitors used multiple long scoring runs the remainder of the way to seal the 80-67 road win.
GAME NOTES
- Despite the loss, Lewis still leads the all-time series, 53-42.
- Hall is the first player to have 25-or-more points this season.
- UIndy outscored Lewis, 34-18, in the paint
- Cosme's six points are a season-high and career-high.
