Romeoville, Ill. – The Lewis University men's basketball team dropped a close 66-64 decision to Ferris State Tuesday evening at Neil Carey Arena.
IMPACT PLAYERS
Mykel Bringham led the Bulldogs (3-4) with a 20 points, 10 rebounds double double. Justin Asi and Tyler Hamilton chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively to assist in Ferris State's winning effort.
Arius Alijosius (Riverside, Ill./Riverside-Brookfield) paced the Flyers (2-7) in scoring for the third consecutive contest with 15 points while
Timofei Komissarov (St. Petersburg, Russia/GUTID) chipped in a season-best 13 points.
Cale Cosme (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) added in 12 points and a game-high four assists of his own. On the glass,
Ryan Hall (Kettering, Ohio/Kettering Fairmont) snagged seven boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tied 64-64 with less than 20 seconds after an earlier
Drew Fisher (Los Angeles, Calif./Crespi Carmelite High School) free-throw make, the Bulldog carried the ball down court and with 14 seconds left drew a foul that sent Hamilton to the line. At the charity stripe, Hamilton sunk both shots to make it a 66-64 contest and forced a Lewis timeout.
Lewis had one final attempt out of the break, but a triple from the hosts went off the iron as time expired and let Ferris State escape with a road win.
Earlier in the contest, the two Midwest rivals found themselves tied, 17-17, with just under 10 minutes left in the half. Ferris State ended the stanza on a 16-8 run and entered the locker room with a 33-25 advantage.
The red and white began the second half on fire as they scored 11 of the first 13 points of the frame, paced by four scores from Alijosius, to regain the lead, 36-35, with 15:14 left to play. Both sides were caught in a near deadlock the remainder of the contest, but a late triple from Alijosius gave Lewis a slim 63-61 edge with 1:28 remaining, inadvertently setting up the Bulldogs late surge to win.
