CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Lewis University baseball team began its 2025 campaign against Findlay Sunday (Feb. 23) at Hayden Field on the campus of Xavier University. The Oilers won the first game 16-9 while the Flyers won the second contest 9-4.

SUMMARY
Findlay struck first in the bottom of the first inning to quickly grab a 1-0 lead.
Will Bruno (Upton, MA/UNC Pembroke) tied it up in the next half inning after an RBI single up the middle scored
George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist).
The Oilers broke through with a five spot in the second inning, giving them a 6-1 advantage. Findlay was not done after adding three more in the third and seven in the fourth, giving them a 16-1 lead.
Lewis tried to slowly mount a comeback starting in the fifth after
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) connected on a pitch and hit one over the left field wall, making it 16-4. Bruno reached on a fielding error by the Findlay centerfielder which scored
Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie).
The next inning,
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) ripped a two-run single, scoring
Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill./UNC-Pembroke) and
Blake Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Plainfield South) to make it 16-7. Hunley brought Krol home after ripping an RBI single through the right side.
Lewis added one more run after
Sam Brzezinski (Lombard, Ill./Glenbard South) connected on a solo shot to left, making it 16-9. That score would hold with Findlay winning 16-9.

SUMMARY
Lewis jumped out with a four spot in the fourth inning, giving them a 4-0 lead.
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) started the scoring after crossing home plate on a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
Cole Nelson (St. Charles, Ill/Lenoir Rhyne) ripped a two-run triple to left center which scored
John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) and Hunley making it 3-0. Later in the inning, Nelson scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-0.
The Flyers tacked on and scored three more times in the fifth making it 7-0. Hunley hit an RBI single through the right side which scored Bilecki.
Nelson scored Hunley to make it 6-0 after hitting a sacrifice fly to left. Kocen got in the hit column and scored Hunley with an RBI single through the left side, extending it to 7-0.
Lewis recorded a pair of more runs in the sixth frame giving the Flyers a 9-0 advantage. Hunley recorded his second RBI of the contest after scoring Bilecki with an RBI single up the middle.
Nelson picked up his fourth RBI and second hit in game two after hitting a single up the middle which scored Hunley to make it 9-0. The Oilers put up a four spot in the seventh inning to cut the Lewis lead down to 9-4 as that score would hold with the Flyers coming out on top.
Dylan Wolff (Joliet, Ill.) (1-0) recorded a win on the bump for Lewis after throwing five scoreless innings, giving up three hits, issuing one walk and struck out five.
Daniel Rosado (Burbank, Ill.) pitched a scoreless sixth in relief and recorded a strikeout.

Lewis will be back in action Monday, February 24 as the Flyers continue its series against Findlay with a doubleheader. First game is slated to start at 10 a.m. CT.
