No. 22 Lewis Softball Falls in Both Contests Tuesday

HONOLULU -- The Lewis University softball team played in Hawaii for a pair of contests against Hillsdale and Cal Poly Humboldt Tuesday (Feb. 4). The Chargers defeated the Flyers 3-2 then Lumberjacks won 10-0 in five innings.

GAME 1: Hillsdale 3, No. 22 Lewis 2

SUMMARY
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) started the scoring in the third inning after her RBI single to left scored Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) to make it 1-0.

Lewis extended it out to 2-0 after Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) scored on a throwing error by the catcher. 

Hillsdale was able to get one run back in the bottom of the fourth. The Chargers tied it with a run in the sixth.

Hillsdale was able to walk it off in the bottom of the seventh off Garden to win 3-2.

Garden suffered the loss (1-1) in relief throwing 1.1 innings, giving up two hits, one earned run and striking out one.

GAME 2: Cal Poly-Humboldt 10, Lewis 0 (5 innings)

Cal Poly-Humboldt 1-0 | Lewis 2-2

SUMMARY
Cal Poly Humboldt struck first with a run in the opening frame to make it 1-0.

The Lumberjacks extended it out to 3-0 with a pair of runs in the third. 

Cal Poly busted the game open in the fourth with seven runs in the fourth frame which made it 10-0 in favor of the Lumberjacks. 
 
Maddie Hessing (Brimfield, IL/Brimfield High School) (0-1) picked up the loss after going three innings, giving up five runs, allowing three hits, issuing five walks and striking out four. Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) pitched 1.1 innings in relief, allowed one hit and struck out two.

Lewis will be back in Hawaii Thursday, February 6 as the Flyers take on Nebraska-Kearney at 3 p.m. then Hawaii-Hilo at 7 p.m. CT.
