NEWBERRY, SC - The No. 13 Lewis University men's lacrosse team defeated No. 14 Newberry on Friday night beginning their 2025 campaign with an above .500 record.

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 3, Newberry 2
With Donahue starting in the net for the beginning of the 2025 season for the Flyers, Lewis started underneath the Friday night lights with a lead. Lewis cleared the ball giving the offense an opportunity to strike. At 12:40, McCann threw one into the triangle for the first goal of the game and goal of the season for the Flyers.
Newberry responded a goal a few minutes later, only to be met with a ringer by Kevin Blaz (McHenry, Illinois/Marian Central Catholic HS) at 7:40 left in the first to give Lewis the lead once again. Three minutes later, the Flyers struck once again giving themselves a 3-1 lead thanks to a goal by Dominic Bravata (Portage, Michigan/Portage Northern HS). Newberry captured another goal before the quarter break but Lewis walked into the second quarter with a 3-2 lead.
SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 5, Newberry 4
Newberry took control of the quarter in the first few minutes with two goals to put the Flyers down 4-3.
Camden Rappis (Delafield, Wisconsin/Kettle Moraine HS) would tie the game up once again off of a Schroeder assist at the 8:48 minute mark in the second. Lewis would then regain the lead in its entirety with a goal by Schroeder.
Lewis would then capture two quick goals to give themselves a 7-5 lead only to be followed up by a good shot by Hayes with just under four minutes remaining to give Lewis another goal. Newberry would throw one in just before the end of the period to make it an 8-6 game.
THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 3, Newberry 2
McCann would start the scoring in the third, giving Lewis their ninth goal of the game thanks to an assist by Hayes. Newberry would follow up with another goal to hold their deficit at two. Fortunately for the Flyers Metheny hammered one in for another three goal lead at 10-7.
Once again Newberry put in another goal to cut the Flyer lead back down to two, yet with 1:51 remaining in the period, Metheny put in a goal to give Lewis another three goal lead with a score of 11-8 heading into the fourth.
FOURTH QUARTER: Newberry 3, Lewis 1
Lewis would begin the fourth period with a quick goal from Metheny to give Lewis their largest lead of the day at four goals. Newberry would put in the last two points of the game and the clock continued to ride down with Lewis in the lead. At the final Siren the Flyers held on to te lead to capture their first win of the season.
FINAL SCORE: Lewis 12, Newberry 10
