QUINCY, Ill. -- The No. 15 Lewis men's volleyball team beat conference opponent Quincy in five sets on Saturday night (March 1).

SET BREAKDOWN
SET 1: Quincy 25, Lewis 19
Oguzhan with the assist from Morgan would start the game with a kill giving Lewis the first lead of the night. The Hawks would turn the game rather quickly and put up a score of 5-2 after a run. Krueger-Beer would end the run with a kill which led to the game going back and forth for several serves.
The Flyers would never find themselves in the lead again in the first set but kills from Oguz, Haber, Baggs and the rest of the crew would keep it close. The final two points for the Flyers in the first set came from a Quincy serving error and a kill by Morgan, The Hawks would take the set on the next two plays with a score of 25-19.
SET 2: Lewis 25, Quincy 17
Todorov would start the Flyers out the right path for the second set with three serving aces in a row giving Lewis an early 3-0 lead. After an error and point for the Hawks, Roquet would fire one to the hardwood for a kill.
The Hawks would work their way back up the scoreboard to give themselves a quick 8-7 lead. The Flyers would take four out of the next five with kills by Krueger-Beer, Todorov and Oguzhan with an error by Quincy to make it a 11-9 game. After a Todorov service error, the Flyers would go on a five point run off of points provided by kills from Oquzhan and Todorov, a Krueger-Beer ace, and blocks by Shawn Baggs and Morgan.
The Flyers would go on a three point run after their previous run was broken up by a Hawks kill. The two squads would trade points until Lewis finally worked their way into winning position with a kill from Krueger-Beer, then two errors from the Hawks gave Lewis the points they needed to take set 2.
SET 3: Lewis 25, Quincy 19
A Quincy block and kill gave the hawks a quick 2-0 lead, which was promptly followed up by a three point Lewis run capped off by a kill from Roquet. with the score tied at five, Lewis would once again go four for five and take a 9-6 lead with two kills by Todorov and a kill plus a block by Oquzhan. Quincy would do the same to tie the game at ten.
The set would be tight down the stretch with the game being tied numerous times but at 17-16 Lewis, the Flyers hit the gas in the set. A three point run by Oguzhan and Morgan gave Lewis the 20-16 lead.
A Hawks service error and a
Cole Sweitzer (Middleton, Wis./Middleton HS) Ace gave the Flyers 22. A kill by Roquet with an attack error by Quincy gave the Flyers 24, which let Baggs hammer one home for the set 3 victory and the match lead.
SET 4: Quincy 25, Lewis 17
Quincy got ahead early with a four point run from the jump ended only by a serving error. Starting with the serving error both teams would go back and forth with one point gains until it was a 10-7 Quincy game.
The Hawks then went on a five point run broken up by a kill by Roquet. The Flyers pieced together a few more points including a three point run near the end of the set with two kills by
Cameron Hoying (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) but the Hawks took set four 25-17.
SET 5: Lewis 15, Quincy 8
After a Quincy serving error gave the Flyers the early exchange of points which put the final set at a 2-2 game, the Flyers got after it. A five point run with two kills a piece for Oguz and Roquet and a serving ace from Todorov the Flyers were already halfway to a fifth set win. Another kill from Roquet and a block by Baggs have the Flyers the 9-3 advantage, two errors by the Hawks made it 11-4 moments later.
Todorov and Oguz each put a kill on the board to give the Flyers 13, with a service error from the Hawks and an ace from Oguz, Lewis took their fifth straight win.
