Flyers Baseball Bring the Rain in Four Game Sweep Against McKendree

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University baseball team faced McKendree once again on the second day of a back to back double header in a high tension contest which saw the Flyers walk way with another two wins. 

GAME 1: Lewis 21, McKendree 8 (7 Innings)

TEAM RECORDS

SUMMARY
The Bearcats put the first runs on the board for the day with an RBI single to left field in the top of the first. On their portion of the inning, Lewis would open up a massive five spot to start offense on the right track. It begin with a Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) lead off double, he would score on a Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) single to right field. A Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) walk brought in George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) and a Will Bruno (Upton, MA/UNC Pembroke) double to right field brought home three more to make it a 5-1 ball game. 

McKendree homered in the top of the second only to be met with a 13 run bottom of the second from the Flyers. The runs in this inning are as follows:

Bilecki double to right, McDevitt scored
Krol single to left, Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill./UNC-Pembroke) scored
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) double to center, Bilecki scored
Bruno single to center, Hunley and Headrick scored
Tyler Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) reaches on fielders choice, Cole Nelson (St. Charles, Ill/Lenoir Rhyne) scored
McDevitt two run home run, Phommachanhom scored
Kocen solo home run
Headrick three run home run, Krol and Bilecki scored

Mckendree scored two home runs in the top of the third adding three runs to their total. 

Lewis scored again in the fourth with a Bilecki two run homer which saw Kocen cross home plate then Headrick doubled to bringing home Krol.

The last run of the game was scored in the top of the sixth by the Bearcats.

GAME 2: Lewis 14, McKendree 9

SUMMARY
The Bearcats had a very productive top of the first with four runs to give them a hefty lead prior to the Flyers getting to the bat rack, then the Flyers got to the bat rack. 

Lewis put up six runs in the bottom of the first, it began with two back to back home runs by Kocen and Bilecki to cut the lead in half. Krol would single to left field on a 2-2 count and was brought home after a Headrick single to right and a Hunley sac-fly to right.

A Russell single to right field allowed Headrick to score and a Phommachahom single to left scored Nelson giving the Flyers a 6-4 lead. 

Scoring was non existent until the top of the fifth when McKendree had a two run home run, taking back the lead 7-6. 

The Flyers immediately responded with a two run home run of their
own in the bottom of the fifth, The Flyers would not trail for the remainder of the contest. 

McKendree tied the game at eight in the top of the sixth but a Bilecki two run home run gave the Flyers the final push off they needed to take the game. Russell would homer in the bottom of the seventh to make it 11-8.

In the bottom of the eighth, Headrick provided the dagger in a form of a three run homer to make it 14-8. The Bearcats would put up a solo home run in the top of the eighth but the ball game was sealed with a 14-9 score.  
 
UP NEXT
Lewis will be back in action next weekend as they face Lincoln in Jefferson City, Mo. in a four game series starting Friday March 21st.
