Lewis Softball Sweeps Rockhurst at the Dome Friday

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team won both games of the doubleheader against Rockhurst Friday (March 21). The Flyers claimed game one 1-0 in eight innings then took the second 11-2 in five frames. 

GAME 1: Lewis 1, Rockhurst 0 (8 innings)

TEAM RECORDS

SUMMARY
Both teams remained scoreless in the first seven innings and the game went into extra innings at 0-0. 

Lewis had a several scoring opportunities to take the lead including the sixth when Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) hit a one-out double to left but she was stranded at second. 
 
The Flyers rallied and walked off in the bottom of the eighth. Grace Kmak (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central High School) singled to right field, Garden singled to left and Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) recorded the go-ahead hit with the walk-off single to right, scoring Kmak from second for the 1-0 victory.
 
Garden (11-6) secured the win in the circle after throwing a complete game shutout. Garden pitched all eight scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out 12. 
 
GAME 2: Lewis 11, Rockhurst 2 (5 innings)

SUMMARY
Rockhurst struck first in the second game quickly making it 1-0. 
 
Lewis responded with a pair of runs in the second inning, taking a 2-1 lead. Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) hit a ground-rule double, scoring Garden from second, making it 1-1. 
 
Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) extended the Lewis lead after hitting a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Graham, for a 2-1 advantage. 
 
Lewis doubled its lead in the second inning, making it 4-1. Nicole Magdiasz reached on a fielding error by the Hawks' right fielder allowing Garden to score from first.
 
Magdiasz subsequently scored during the next at-bat as Graham smashed an RBI double to center, making it 4-1. 
 
The Flyers broke the contest open in the following frame during the third inning with six runs, making it 10-1 in favor of Lewis.
 
Garden recorded the game's biggest hit after hitting a three-run triple down the left field line, scoring three, making it 7-1.
 
Graham extended the lead out to 8-1 after an RBI single to left, scoring Garden. Frafjord hit a RBI single up the middle, scoring Magdziasz, making it 9-1 Lewis.
 
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) ripped an RBI double to left, scoring Graham for the 10-1 advantage.  Lewis added one more run in the fourth inning, giving the Flyers a 11-1 lead in the frame.
 
Rockhurst looked to rally to avoid being run-ruled in the fifth as the Hawks were only able to score one run as the game ended with the Flyers winning 2-1.
 
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (12-3) recorded the win in the circle after going five innings, giving up four hits, allowing two runs (one earned), walking two and striking out seven. 
 
UP NEXT
Lewis will be back in action Saturday, March 22 as the Flyers host Southwest Baptist at Lewis Softball Field for a doubleheader starting at noon CT.
