Lewis Baseball Sweeps Lincoln and Extends Win Streak to Double Digits

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Lewis University baseball team swept Lincoln University (MO) after winning the last two remaining games of the series Saturday, March 22. With this series sweep, the Flyers have now reached 10 straight wins, while winning 14 of their last 16 games.

HEAD COACH MIKE VUCSKO
"Our starting pitchers set the tone all weekend. We got four strong starts. Defensively we were good all weekend and offensively we had our moments. I thought the bench mob gave us energy for 16 innings today. Overall, winning four games in 30 hours is a tough task especially on the road in such a tough league. I'm happy for our guys, but we have to stay focused with a tough week ahead."

GAME 1: Lewis 10, Lincoln (MO) 4  (7 Innings)

TEAM RECORDS
Lewis 14-5, 9-2 GLVC | Lincoln (MO) 2-21, 0-7 GLVC

SUMMARY
Tyler Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) opened the door for the Lewis offense in the top of the third inning with a one out single to center, a Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) double advanced Phommachanhom to third which allowed him to score later in the inning from a Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill./UNC-Pembroke) sacrifice fly to put the Flyers on the board 1-0.

McDevitt also came around to score the second run of the game in the top of the fifth inning after an RBI double from Kocen. The Flyers piled on with a two-run homer from George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) which increased the Lewis lead to 4-0. The Flyers scored three more runs in the top of the sixth on four hits and one Lincoln error , highlighted by a two RBI triple by Phommachanhom to right center.

Lincoln responded and entered the scoring column fast in the bottom half of the sixth producing four runs on four base hits and a Lewis error cutting the lead to three at 7-4. Bilecki's second home run of the game in the top of the seventh provided insurance for the Flyers, along with two other runs that came across on a Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) sacrifice fly and Cole Nelson (St. Charles, Ill/Lenoir Rhyne) single which updated the final score to 10-4.

GAME 2: Lewis 12, Lincoln (MO) 5

TEAM RECORDS
Lewis 15-5, 10-2 GLVC |  Lincoln (MO) 2-22, 0-8 GLVC

SUMMARY
The Flyers were first to enter the score column again in the top of the first inning with Kocen scoring on a fielder's choice, a Lincoln error allowed Bilecki to score, and a single by Kyle Peterson (Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg) drove in two letting Lewis jump out ahead 4-0. The Blue Tigers respinded soon after with a solo homer off the bat of Little to end the scoring at 4-1 after the first inning.

Bilecki collected his third home run of the day in the top of the second driving in two runs while John Henry Russell (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) got an RBI on a groundout to up the score to a commanding 7-1. All was quiet for both teams until a walk from Peterson with the bases loaded allowed Headrick to score in the top of the fifth and a sacrifice fly from Phommachanhom got the job done which brought in Russell which put the Flyers ahead 9-1.

Lewis continued their offensive prowess with yet another home run from Bilecki, marking his fourth of the day while Russell singled for an RBI, adding two more runs to the score making it 11-1.
