Lewis Women’s Lacrosse Bounces Back with Victory Wednesday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University women's lacrosse team recorded a bounce back victory Wednesday (March 5) as the Flyers defeated Davis & Elkins 18-2 at Lewis Stadium.

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 7, Davis & Elkins 1
Lewis scored the first seven goals of the contest for an early 7-0 lead. Jade McKinnon (Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/Dr. Charles Best Secondary School) scored the game's first goal after winning the opening draw. 
 
For the next pair of goals, Roney found Heidi Sweeney (New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada/New Westminster) for two scores, making it 3-0. Less than one minute later, Roney found Cappellini for the goal that made it 4-0. 
 
McKinnon extended the lead to 5-0 for the Flyers after finding the back of the cage at the 5:30 mark. Ameila Procyk made it a 6-0 lead after finding the back of the net. 
 
12 seconds later, Daniella Winterlik (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/Terry Fox) won the draw and took it all the way for the score, making it 7-0. The Senators were able to break through for their first goal of the contest at the 2:51 mark. 
 
SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 4, Davis & Elkins 0
Lewis scored the only four goals of the second. Cappellini scored the first goal of the second quarter for Lewis after receiving the ball from Roney, making it 8-1. 
 
Cappellini found the back of the net again at the 1:20 mark of the quarter, extending Lewis's lead to 9-1. Georgia Kodytek (White Bear Lake, Minn/White Bear Lake South) scored next for the Flyers off a free position shot, making the score 10-1. 
 
In the closing seconds of the half, McKinnon picked up a ground ball and fed it inside to Roney, who scored and made it 11-1. 
 
THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 5, Davis & Elkins 0
Lewis went another quarter as being the sole team to score after adding five more tallies in the third. McKinnon recorded another assist after feeding the ball inside to Sweeney for the score, making it 12-1.
 
Cappellini recorded her fourth goal of the match with 8:56 remaining in the third, extending the Lewis lead to 13-1. Sweeney recorded assists on the next pair of Lewis goals after throwing it into Procyk and McKinnon making the score 15-1.
 
Sweeney scored her fourth goal of the game after assisting on the previous two to add to the lead and make it 16-1.
 
FOURTH QUARTER: Lewis 2, Davis & Elkins 1
Cappellini found Roney 68 seconds into the period for the score, giving Lewis a 17-1 advantage. Davis & Elkins scored a goal with 3:40 remaining in the contest to make it a 17-2 game.
 
Ryan Fuhrer (Evansville, Ind/Reitz Memorial High School) scored her first goal of the game with 39 seconds left on the clock extending the Lewis lead to 18-2. That score would hold with Lewis winning 18-2.

FINAL SCORE: Lewis 18, Davis & Elkins 2

Lewis will be back in action Saturday, March 15 as the Flyers travel to Northern Michigan in Marquette, Michigan starting at 11 a.m. CT.
