LIBERTY, Mo. -- The Lewis University women's lacrosse team was able to hang on and defeat William Jewell 12-11 Thursday (April 17).

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 2, William Jewell 2
Sweeney started the scoring for Lewis after Roney passed inside for the goal. William Jewell responded to tie the contest at one with a goal two minutes later.
McKinnon was able to find Sweeney for her second consecutive goal, giving the Flyers a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals got one back at the 3:11, tying it at 2-2.
SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 5, William Jewell 3
Lewis started the second quarter with four straight goals, giving them a 6-2 lead. McKinnon gave Lewis the lead after finding the back of the cage off a pass from Procyk.
Procyk recorded her second consecutive assist after passing it inside to Sweeney for the score extending the lead to 4-2.
Georgia Kodytek (White Bear Lake, Minn/White Bear Lake South) passed to
Daniella Winterlik (Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada/Terry Fox) for a score, making it 5-2.
Winterlik took it herself 42 seconds later for a score, making it 6-2. William Jewell then scored three straight goals, narrowing the gap to 6-5 in favor of the Flyers.
Sweeney provided Lewis some momentum going into the break as she scored a free-position goal with 36 seconds left in the first half.
THIRD QUARTER: William Jewell 5, Lewis 3
WJC scored the first goal of the second half, 54 seconds in the quarter making it 7-6 Lewis.
Eliana Cappellini (Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada/Burnaby North Secondary School) passed it to Procyk for the next goal with 10:36 remaining, giving the Flyers a 8-6 lead.
The Cardinals tied it with the next pair of goals, making it 8-8. Winterik was able to regain the lead for the Flyers after finding the back of the net off a free-position shot.
William Jewell proceeded to score the next two goals, giving the Cardinals a 10-9 advantage. McKinnon threw the ball inside to
Georgia Kodytek (White Bear Lake, Minn/White Bear Lake South) for the score to tie it once again at 10-10.
FOURTH QUARTER: Lewis 2, William Jewell 1
Lewis scored the first pair of goals in the fourth quarter, giving the Flyers a 12-10 lead. Procyk threw the ball to Sweeney, who found the back of the cage for the score.
McKinnon gave Lewis an insurance goal with 5:16 remaining in the contest, making it 12-10 Flyers. William Jewell mananged to score a goal with 2:51 remaining, but that would be all the scoring.
FINAL SCORE: Lewis 12, William Jewell 11

Lewis will be back in action Saturday, April 19 as the Flyers travel to Kansas City, Missouri to take on Rockhurst starting at noon CT.
