#14 Lewis Men’s Volleyball Falls to #6 Loyola in MIVA Semifinals Wednesday

CHICAGO -- The No. 14 and fourth-seeded Lewis University men's volleyball team lost to No. 6 and one-seeded Loyola-Chicago on Wednesday, April 23 3-0.

SET BREAKDOWN
SET 1: Loyola-Chicago 25, Lewis 15
Both teams went back and forth to start the contest, trading points before Loyola scored four in a row for a 8-4 lead. Oguz recorded two consecutive kills for the Flyers, making it 9-6 but that was the closest the Flyers got. 
 
Loyola-Chicago made it 17-12 midway through the set. Piotr Wymoczyl (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove HS) recorded a kill to make it 17-13, but then the Ramblers scored five consecutive points to take a 22-13 lead. 
 
Oguz looked to get the Flyers going after recording a kill but Loyola scored the next three out of four points to take the set 25-15. 
 
SET 2: Loyola-Chicago 25, Lewis 23
Both teams scored three each after exchanging points before the Ramblers scored two consecutive points, making it 5-3 Loyola. 
 
Loyola led 14-11 before Lewis rallied and scored three straight points including blocks from Baggs Jr., Morgan and Roquet, tying it at 14-14. Both teams traded points keeping the score tied at 18-18. 
 
Lewis got a kill from Oguz and Daniel Haber's (Remsenburg, NY/Westhampton Beach) service ace gave the Flyers a 21-19 lead. The Ramblers responded with two consecutive points, tying it at 21-21.
 
Oguz tied it at 23-23 with a kill but that was the last time it would be tied. Loyola scored the next two points to win the second set 25-23.
 
SET 3: Loyola-Chicago 25, Lewis 23
Each team scored six points to begin the third set before Lewis scored three consecutive points including a kill from Roquet making it 9-6 Flyers. Loyola scored the next four out of the next five points, tying it at 10-10. 
 
The Flyers got back-to-back points including a kill from Baggs Jr. giving them a 12-10 advantage. Moments later, Morgan recorded a kill, giving Lewis a 17-14 lead. 
 
Loyola responded with a rally, tying it at 19-19, forcing Lewis to call timeout.  The Ramblers controlled the rest of the set outscoring the Flyers 6-4 to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-0. 

FINAL SCORE: Loyola-Chicago 3, Lewis 0
