Lewis Softball Earns Share of GLVC Regular Season Title; Ends Regular Season with Sweep of UIS Sunday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team spent senior day locked into a fierce battle with the University of Illinois Springfield, claiming both games in the doubleheader Sunday (April 27). With the two victories, the Lewis softball team became the Great Lakes Valley Conference co-regular season conference champions with Drury.

GAME 1: Lewis 4, Illinois Springfield 3 (11 innings)

TEAM RECORDS
Lewis 35-16, 21-6 GLVC | Illinois Springfield 29-17, 16-11 GLVC

SUMMARY
Lewis did not score a single run until the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game at two and send it into extra innings.

Once again, Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) was stellar from inside the circle, recording 13 strikeouts while issuing no walks.

In the seventh, Garden singled and reached third on an error by the pitcher. Then, Nicole Magdziasz (Tinley Park, IL/Providence Catholic High School) reached third an error by the Prairie Stars third basemen, sending Garden home. A Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) single to right field sent Magdziasz home to tie the game at two.

In extra innings, the Prairie Stars scored off an RBI single in the tenth to make it a 3-2 game. Garden scored again off another ball put in play by Magdziasz to tie it once again.

Finally, in the bottom of the eleventh, Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) reached first on a walk. She advanced to second on a Mackenzie Sheehan (Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove) single to center field. Frafjord eventually scored on a Grace Kmak (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central High School) single to right field, winning the first game.

SUMMARY
Two scoreless innings were broken up by Garden scoring on a bunt laid down by Graham giving the Flyers a quick 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Sheehan doubled and was thrown out trying to stretch her hit into a double, Frafjord scored on the play.

A three-run home run by Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) to send both Magdziasz and Garden home acted as the last scoring from either contest.

Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) finished out her outing with seven scoreless innings with three walks and five strikeouts.

After the game, Lewis Softball celebrated the careers of Garden and Kmak, as today marked their final regular-season home game from Romeoville.
