Lewis Softball Drops Contest to Missouri S&T in GLVC Tournament Wednesday

EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team lost in the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament as the Flyers fell to Missouri S&T 4-1 Wednesday (April 30).

TEAM RECORDS
Missouri S&T 18-32 | Lewis 36-17

SUMMARY
Both teams were scoreless through the first two innings. Missouri S&T broke through and scored four runs in the third inning giving the Miners a 4-0 lead.

Lewis looked to respond in the fourth inning after Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) led off the inning with a single but the Flyers were unable to bring a run across.

Mackenzie Sheehan (Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove) led off the fifth inning with a single as well but she was later caught stealing as Missouri S&T got out of the jam.

The Flyers threatened in the bottom of the sixth inning after Garden hit a one-out triple to right then Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) and Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) both walked to load the bases. The Miners managed to get the third out and escape further damage.

Lewis scored a run in the seventh inning after Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) tripled down the left field line and then Ava Reed (Lemont, IL/Lemont High School) drove her home with an RBI groundout, making it 4-1. That would be the lone run the Flyers scored in the contest, with Missouri S&T winning 4-1.

Garden (18-9) suffered the loss in the circle after going the full seven innings, giving up nine hits, allowing four runs and striking out seven.
