EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team saw its Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament run end as the Flyers were eliminated by No. 3 seed Maryville 4-2 Thursday.

SUMMARY
Maryville struck first in the bottom of the second inning with a run, making it 1-0 Saints.
The Saints added two more runs in the bottom of the third with a two-run homerun to left, extending the lead to 3-0.
Maryville provided an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth, making it 4-0 in favor of the Saints.
Lewis cut the deficit in half when
Isabelle Poortenga (Dyer,IN/Lake Central High School) hit a two-run single to right, scoring
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) and
Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South), making it 4-2.
The Flyers aimed to rally in the seventh inning after loading the bases with one out by the way of walks.
Maryville managed to escape further damage by securing back-to-back outs to close out the game and ensure the victory.
