(RV) Lewis Softball Sweeps Missouri-St. Louis Saturday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The (RV) Lewis University softball team swept both games of the doubleheader against Missouri-St. Louis (April 5). The Flyers won the first game 3-0 then took the second contest 7-6.

GAME 1: (RV) Lewis 3, Missouri-St. Louis 0

SUMMARY
Both teams were scoreless in the opening inning. Katie Jensen (Warrenville, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) connected on her first home run of the season with a solo shot to right center, making it 1-0 Lewis in the second inning. 

UMSL loaded the bases in the third inning, but Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) avoided further damage by securing the third out. 
 
Lewis loaded the bases in the fourth inning after three consecutive walks. Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) extended the lead to 2-0 with an RBI groundout scored Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School)
 
Both teams did not score in the fifth inning after Garden escaped another bases-loaded jam with one out. 
 
Hoffman extended the Flyers lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning by ripping a RBI double to right center, scoring Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) from second. 
 
Garden (15-5) recorded the win in the circle after throwing a complete game shutout. Garden pitched all seven scoreless innings, giving up five hits, issuing two walks and striking out six. 
 
GAME 2: (RV) Lewis 7, Missouri-St. Louis 6

SUMMARY
UMSL struck first with a three-run home run in the opening inning, taking a 3-0 lead. 
 
Frafjord responded with a three-run home run of her own, her fourth of the season, which tied the game at 3-3.  
 
Both teams failed to score in the second and third innings, keeping the score tied at 3-3. 
 
UMSL broke through in the top of the fourth with three runs, giving the Tritons a 6-3 advantage. 
 
Lewis regained the lead in the bottom half of the fourth with four runs. Garden drove home Grace Kmak (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central High School) and Ava Reed (Lemont, IL/Lemont High School) with a two-run single to right making 6-5 UMSL.
Frafjord gave Lewis a 7-6 lead after ripping a two-run double to center, scoring Garden and Graham. 
 
Both teams did not score in the fifth and sixth innings, keeping the score 7-6 in favor of the Flyers. 
 
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (13-4) recorded the win in the circle after going all seven innings, allowing seven hits, six runs (two earned), walking two and striking out two.

Lewis will be back in action Sunday, April 6 as the Flyers host Lincoln (Mo.) at Lewis Softball Field for a doubleheader starting at noon CT.
