No. 3 Seed Flyers Get Revenge On Rockhurst, Advances To GLVC Championship Saturday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Just five days after the Lewis University men's lacrosse team lost by a goal to Rockhurst, the Flyers exacted revenge on the Hawks, defeating Rockhurst 11-10 Thursday (May 1) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament semifinal match. The No. 3 seed Flyers advance to face the top seed and hosts, Maryville, Saturday at noon.

SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 5, Rockhurst 1
Rockhurst opened the scoring at the 8:34 mark of the first quarter. However, the Flyers answered with five straight goals.

Malikye Good (Windsor, Ontario, Canada/St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic HS) started off the run for the Flyers, scoring at the 5:18 mark of the first quarter. Nolan Dalep (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada/Claremont Secondary School) followed less than 30 seconds later to make it 2-1.

Lewis added three goals in the final two minutes to build the lead to 5-1 after the first quarter. Hayes scored the first at the 1:49 mark, while Ruskoski followed with a tally just 16 seconds later. Schroeder finished off the quarter with a goal at the 30 second mark.

SECOND QUARTER: Rockhurst 4, Lewis 2
The Hawks scored four straight goals to tie the game at 5-5 with 2:36 remaining in the half. 

However, Lewis retook the lead and the momentum with two goals in the final minute from Schroeder and Ruskoski to take a 7-5 lead into the break.

THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 3, Rockhurst 1
Ruskoski added to the lead within the first 30 seconds of the second half to make it 8-5 Flyers.

After a Rockhurst goal, the Flyers answered with two more. Schroeder tallied the first at the 7:22 mark, while Good finished the scoring for the quarter at the 4:47 mark to take a 10-6 lead.

FOURTH QUARTER: Rockhurst 4, Lewis 1
Rockhurst made it a 10-7 game early in the fourth quarter, but the Flyers again got the goal back as Schroeder scored with 7:25 remaining to take an 11-7 lead.

The score remained the same until the final 90 seconds when the Hawks made a furious run to get back in the game, scoring three goals in the span of 62 seconds to make it 11-10 with 20 seconds left.

The Hawks were able to get a pair of shots off in the closing seconds, but neither were on goal as the Flyers held on for the win.

Lewis will look to defend its GLVC title when it takes on Maryville at 12 p.m. Saturday in St. Louis.
