Allendale, Mich. -- The Lewis University baseball team defeated GLVC opponent Missouri S&T in the National Tournament on Friday (May 16) after heartbreaking loss yesterday.

SUMMARY
Luke Carlson (Granville, Ill./Putnam County) took control of the mound for the Flyers on Friday, he finished with six innings pitched, allowing two earned runs and recording four strikeouts.
The Flyers started off on the right foot in the second inning with
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) leading off with a single to center. After working his way around the base path he scored on a wild pitch. The Miners tied the game later in the bottom of the third.
In the top of the fourth,
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) hit a solo home run to boost the Flyers up 2-1.
Will Bruno (Upton, MA/UNC Pembroke) hit single and then
Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) walked,
Tyler Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) hit a three run home run to make it a 5-1 game.
In the fifth, Krol reached on a error by the Missouri S&T shortstop and then scored on a Bruno single to center field making it 6-1.
The Miners added two more runs in the game, one in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the seventh. The Flyers scored one more run on the board with a Krol sacrifice fly to drive Phommachanhom home.
Kaleb Schulist (Shantytown, WI/UW Parkside) and
Carter Endisch (Pewaukee, Wis.) closed out the game with no earned runs.
