INDIANAPOLIS – The Lewis University baseball team captured its sixth GLVC Regular Season Championship in program history with two big wins over the University of Indianapolis on Friday.

Winning the regular season is really hard work. To be so consistently good for 8-10 weeks is tough. This team was up for the task. I'm so proud of this group. They're really special."

GAME 1 SUMMARY
Allowing only one run throughout the first game,
Brendan Lawry (Bolingbrook, Ill./Eckerd College) and
Jackson Bruno (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep) both opened and closed the book for the Flyers today. Lawry went six innings, allowing one earned run with six strikeouts and six hits. J. Bruno in relief, pitched three innings without allowing hits or runs, recording three strikeouts.
The first run of the day came in the second inning off of a
Cole Nelson (St. Charles, Ill/Lenoir Rhyne) RBI double that scored
Will Bruno (Upton, MA/UNC Pembroke); Nelson would then score on an RBI from
Tyler Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC).
The next run came in the fifth with a solo home run off the bat of
Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) to make it a 3-0 ball game.
George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) scored a run off his leadoff double in the sixth inning when
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) hit a single through the left side of the infield to score him.
Run number five was thanks to
Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) RBI single to send Headrick home. The last three runs for the Flyers came from a
Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill./UNC-Pembroke) leading off the ninth, a
Daniel O'Brien (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) 2 RBI single scored Headrick and
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence). Finally Headrick scored again after a Hunley single through the right side of the infield, Flyers won 8-1.
GAME 2: Lewis 16, UIndy 4

GAME 2 SUMMARY
Lewis kept their momentum going with two runs in the first inning of game two from a Krol RBI single and a Bruno RBI single to quickly go up 2-0.
Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill./UNC-Pembroke) hammered a three run home run in the to score McDevitt and Phommachanhom, followed immediately by a
George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) solo shot. A few base hits later, Hunley hit another three run home run to bring home Bruno and Headrick. After the second inning the Flyers led 9-0.
Nelson added another two run home run to the scoreboard to make it 11-0 in the top of the fourth.
In the sixth inning a McDevitt fielder's choice sent Hunley home followed by a 2 RBI double by Kocen.
Lastly in the seventh inning O'Brien singled through the right side of the infield to send Krol home followed by a double play that forced Headrick home to score, ending the game 16-4.
