Marion, Ill. -- The Lewis University baseball team drops to the elimination bracket on Wednesday night (May 7) after a 10-inning loss to UMSL.

SUMMARY
With the recently named Pitcher of the Year on the mound for the Flyers, Brendan Lawry (Bolingbrook, Ill./Eckerd College) led Lewis into game one of their GLVC Tournament journey. Lawry pitched six innings, allowing only three hits and one earned run. In that time the Flyers were able to put up a 6-1 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) singled to right field with one out, he then scored on an RBI single down the right field line off the bat of Jackson Bruno (Chicago, Ill./Notre Dame Prep). Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic), who reached after being hit by a pitch would score on a Jackson Hunley (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) sacrifice fly to make it a 2-0 game. 

In the next inning, Krol had a 2-RBI single through the left side of the infield to score both Mikey Kocen (Beach Park, Ill./UNC-Pembroke) and Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita). , making 4-0 Flyers.

In the fifth, Kocen flied out to right field via sacrifice fly allowing Tyler Phommachanhom (Plainfield, Ill/Parkland CC) to score after he reached base after being hit by pitch to make it 5-0. 

The Tritons finally scored a run in the sixth inning but the Flyers responded with a triple to left from Headrick, scoring Krol to make it a 6-1 game. 

UMSL started to heat up offensively scoring four runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to take a one run lead. Lewis responded in the bottom of the ninth with a leadoff walk by McDevitt, who then scored on a sacrifice fly to left from Headrick, to tie the game.

UMSL scored another run in the top of the tenth and the Flyers were unable to respond in the bottom half of the same inning.
