Box Score Hammond, In. – The Lewis University women's soccer team tied their second game in a row against a GLIAC opponent on Wednesday as they faced off against the Purdue Northwest Pride.
The Flyers moved to 1-0-2 record after the draw with Purdue Northwest becoming 2-0-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half was a back and fourth with both sides having several offensive chances and defensive stops. First goal of the game was created off of a corner kick from the left side of the Lewis offensive zone. Captain
Reese Capion (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North High School) marked her spot from the corner circle and waited for her teammates to set up. With her teammates lined and spaced in three rows, Capion hooked a pass to the top of the key where freshman
Cali Rucka (Channahon, Ill./Minooka Community High School) caught it in stride, took one more touch and fired it into the back of the net for a 1-0 Lewis lead. The Flyers gave up a goal at the 32:10 mark when the Pride forward Mia Nisle slotted on in from the right side of the box.
The second half ended with no goals from either squad as the two teams had several chances to put a ball into the nylon.
Breanna Culver (Roscoe, Ill./Wisconsin-Milwaukee) came inches away from giving Lewis the go ahead goal with minutes left as she nailed a shot into the upper corner cross bar, but time ran out and the two teams met in the middle with a 1-1 final score.
Josie Graziosi (Galena, OH/Big Walnut) was in between the pipes for the Flyers where she allowed one goal with one save, while Purdue Northwest keeper Poppy Jackson allowed one goal as well with four saves.
